If your “BGM” has a singer in bar two, don’t start rewriting the novel-length prompt. Nine times out of ten the session was already broken: Instrumental off, leftover lyrics, or a Styles line that still says vocal.
Run the card below in MidassAI’s Suno studio—beds and karaoke backs only, not full singles. Copy once, reuse every edit.
Preflight (30 seconds)
Tick these before you hit Generate:
- Instrumental = on
- Lyrics box empty (Custom: empty or only
[Instrumental]) - Styles has no
vocal/singer/choir/rap - You know which of the three jobs you’re doing (next section)
Skip the preflight and you’ll burn two credits teaching yourself the same lesson again.
Name the job in one word
Bed — under VO or screen capture. Mood stable, loopable, no hook begging for lyrics.
Back — someone will sing later. Clear groove + chords; leave mids open.
Cue — 15–40s sting or menu loop. Arc over loopability.
Write that word in the Title field (Bed / night drive). It won’t change the model much; it stops you from prompting like a chart single.
Three style recipes (steal and shorten)
Don’t paste five paragraphs. One line, English tags, end with an anti-vocal clause.
Bed / lo-fi work
lo-fi keys, soft kick, vinyl hush, 76 bpm, instrumental bed, no vocals, no vocal samplesBack / midtempo pop
pop backing, clean rhythm guitar, locked bass, 118 bpm, space for lead vocal, no vocalsCue / tense short
dark ambient cue, low drone, sparse piano hits, slow rise, underscore, no singingIf a take still sneaks in a hum, append once: no voice, no humming. Then stop stacking synonyms—regen.
Mode choice without a lecture
- Simple + Instrumental: first usable bed in under a minute.
- Custom: you care about BPM, empty Lyrics, or the “room for vocals” back.
That’s the whole decision. Everything else is listening.
Extend without inventing a singer
When the clip is short:
- Paste the same Styles into Extend.
- Add
continue instrumentalif the UI gives a free text box. - Don’t “improve” the prompt with
epic chorusmid-chain.
After Extend, scrub the join. If energy doubles and a lead melody appears, trash the second half and Extend again from the clean take.
Five-line fix list
| Hear this | Do this |
|---|---|
| Real words | Instrumental on + clear Lyrics |
| Soft ah / hum | Strip vocal words from Styles; regen |
| Voice only after Extend | Identical Styles + continue instrumental |
| Feels like a radio single | Retitle job to Bed/Cue; use bed / underscore |
| Too empty for karaoke | Switch recipe to Back; keep no-vocals clause |
Two clean takes beat ten random ones.
Where the audio goes after Suno
Export the WAV/MP3 and finish outside the generator. Under voice-over: high-pass rumble, duck 2–3 dB when speech hits, and trim loop points on silence—not mid-snare. For a karaoke back, leave the midrange alone; add your vocal track in the DAW instead of asking Suno for a “almost instrumental with soft singer.” Commercial use still depends on your Suno plan—check the license before a client upload.
Session card (print / pin)
[ ] Instrumental ON
[ ] Lyrics empty
[ ] Job: Bed | Back | Cue
[ ] One English Styles line + no vocals
[ ] Generate ×2 → keep quieter
[ ] Extend only with same StylesRun that, then finish EQ and ducking in the editor. Suno’s job is the emotional bed; yours is the mix under dialogue.
